Installing Fedora Linux

Fedora Linux can be installed from local media (hard disk or CD) or over the network (http). This site can help you with all of these approaches. You can download the data from here to put on a disk image. You can download the ISOs and burn your own CDs. You can download the floppy images or the first CD and make boot disks that you then point here to install via http.

Install via the Network

We support installing Fedora Linux over the network via http and nfs. The first thing you will need is a way to boot your system and initiate the network install. You can either burn the disc1 iso or the net install install iso (much smaller). Here is a table of currently available isos:
We recommend that you download the Net Install ISO (about 5 MB for Fedora), burn it to CD, and then boot from this CD to do the install. Note that you must use the matching Install ISO for the version of Fedora you plan to install. You should also download and burn the rescue CD in case of an emergency.
When installing Fedora Linux over the network via http, you will need to know the following information:

Install From CD

To do a local install from CD, you will need to download the CD ISOs and burn them to physical CDs.
The CD images are the i386 disks. See the links to the ISOs in the table above.
